What Are The Oldest Planes Flying For Turkish Airlines?

Turkish Airlines has one of the most extensive international route maps in the world. The airline has spent years building up its route network to connect the most number of passengers worldwide. Thus, over the years, the carrier has built up an extensive fleet. Here are the oldest aircraft flying for Turkish Airlines.

Turkish Airlines’ fleet

Data from Planespotters.net shows that the airline giant has 293 passenger aircraft and 18 cargo aircraft in its fleet comprised of both Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Fleet-wise, here are the following aircraft in Turkish Airlines’ fleet:

  • Airbus A319ceos
  • Airbus A320ceos
  • Airbus A321ceos and A321neos
  • Airbus A330-200s
  • Airbus A330-300s
  • Boeing 737-800s
  • Boeing 737-900s
  • Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 9 aircraft
  • Boeing 777-300ERs
  • Boeing 787-9s

From a fleet perspective, the Boeing 787-9s and Airbus A321neos are the newest aircraft in Turkish Airlines’ fleet. But, here are the oldest.

Turkish Airlines also has a subsidiary called AnadoluJet, which only flies Boeing 737s. For this article, we will focus on the main Turkish Airlines fleet only.

Boeing 737-800s

Turkish Airlines has 62 Boeing 737-800s. Some of these are the oldest in the airline’s fleet. From oldest to youngest, these are:

  1. TC-JFL (21 years old)
  2. TC-JFM (21 years old)
  3. TC-JFU (20 years old)
  4. TC-JFV (20 years old)
  5. TC-JGA (20 years old)
  6. TC-JGC (19 years old)
  7. TC-JGD (19 years old)

All of these aircraft were delivered to the airline between 1999 and 2001.

These aircraft are domestic workhorses. From its hub at the new Istanbul Airport, Turkish Airlines flies these aircraft to cities like Ankara, Bodrum, Batman, Trabzon, Diyarbakir, and more. These planes can also be found flying on some short-haul European flights, such as to Zagreb, Sofia, Lviv, and others.

Airbus aircraft are up next

Next up are three Airbus aircraft. These are a bit younger compared to the 737-800s listed above. In order from oldest to youngest, these are:

  1. TC-JNA (Airbus A330-200)
  2. TC-JUK (Airbus A320ceo)
  3. TC-JNB (Airbus A330-200)

All of these aircraft are 15 years old.

Turkish Airlines uses the A330-200s for a variety of purposes. They can be found flying some longer Middle Eastern routes to Kuwait, Kabul, and Tel Aviv. In addition, these jets do fly on some domestic routes, such as between Istanbul and Adana.

Other longer-routes with the A330-200s include flights to Cameroon, Ghana, Benin, Vietnam, Venezuela, and more.

Meanwhile, the A320ceos are also domestic workhorses and do make their way into some European routes, such as Budapest, Venice, Milan, Munich, and others.

Here are the 20 oldest aircraft in the carrier’s fleet:

As for the newer aircraft in the airline’s fleet, the Boeing 787-9s and Airbus A321neos are helping to refresh and expand the carrier’s fleet. But, one of the most hotly anticipated aircraft are the airline’s Airbus A350-900s, which are due at the airline soon.
