Romanian LCC Blue Air Moves London Flights from Luton to Heathrow

Romanian low-cost carrier (LCC), Blue Air, is transferring its flights to London Heathrow Airport from London Luton Airport beginning Dec. 1. According to the carrier’s schedules for next year, Blue Air will first offer five flights per week during the winter season before increasing to 11 flights per week in the summer between Bucharest and London.

Blue Air’s service to Heathrow will make the service the first low-cost link between Heathrow and Bucharest.

“We are very thrilled to announce Blue Air non-stop flights between Bucharest and London Heathrow, the largest airport in the United Kingdom…The opening of this route sets a new milestone in the development strategy of the Blue Air network and confirms our commitment to provide passengers with the best ultra-low-cost air travel services and additional travel options at an affordable price,” Blue Air Commercial Director Krassimir Tanev said in a press release.

The Romanian LCC also realizes that Heathrow Airport is one of Europe’s most important international hubs, and therefore it intends to partner with several airlines operating from the international airport to offer its Romanian customers more options to connect to European destinations of major interest for both business and leisure, as well as global destinations.

Blue Air is currently the largest Romanian airline by the number of passengers flown. The LCC exclusively operates Boeing 737 aircraft and flies to 57 regularly scheduled destinations across Europe including Belgium, Cyprus, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Spain and the United Kingdom. Blue Air’s service between Bucharest and London Heathrow will be flown by its Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Although Blue Air is opening service to Heathrow Airport, it will still continue to serve Luton Airport flying to Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The LCC has served Luton Airport since 2012. The Romanian LCC competes with Romanian flag carrier, Tarom, as well as British Airways in its flying between Bucharest and London. Blue Air also competes with Tarom on services to other major European international hubs such as Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
