LATAM Incorporates TSA Precheck for Its Passengers
Passengers who have membership in the TSA Precheck program can benefit from an expedited security review process at more than 200 airports in the United States.
In a press release, LATAM Airlines announced that the group and the United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced the incorporation of the airline to the TSA PreCheck program, offering a faster and more expeditious process at the time of the security inspection in more than 200 airports in the United States.
TSA PreCheck is a pre-inspection process that allows travelers an agile and efficient experience in which passengers will not need to remove their shoes, belts or light jackets, remove their laptops or liquids when arriving at the security control areas in selected airports.
According to the TSA, in February 2021, 100% of passengers in TSA PreCheck lanes waited less than five minutes.
TSA PreCheck is available for eligible passengers when departing from a U.S. airport or when connecting on domestic flights after returning to the United States. Travelers who are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals and U.S. lawful permanent residents can apply for TSA PreCheck for a cost of $85 for a five-year membership.
Other passengers who are eligible for the TSA PreCheck program include members of the three U.S. Customs and Border Protection Trusted Traveler programs: Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI. TSA PreCheck is also available to service members of the U.S. Army, including those serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Reserves, and National Guard.
LATAM customers who are members of TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, NEXTUS or SENTRI can provide their “Known Traveler Number” (KTN) when making their reservation. This will generate an identification on the boarding pass that will allow you to navigate through exclusive lines for a more comfortable experience and with less waiting times at authorized airports on any of the 82 participating airlines. Most new enrollees receive a KTN within three to five days.
TSA PreCheck is currently available at more than 200 airports with 82 participating airlines nationwide. From these airlines, 13 are from Latin America: Aerolane Líneas Aéreas Nacionales del Ecuador, Aeroméxico, Aruba Airlines, Avianca, Azul Linhas Aereas Brasileiras, Copa Airlines, Flycana, InterCaribbean Airways, Interjet, LATAM Airlines Group (including all of its subsidiaries: Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador), Seaborne Airlines, Viva Aerobus and Volaris.
This is an important step made by LATAM Airlines Group after Delta Airlines purchased 20% of its stakes and announcing their partnership agreement. As announced, frequent fliers of both carriers will count with reciprocity of miles earnings and redemptions, and this new improvement announced by LATAM Airlines will benefit directly its passengers by offering them this pre-inspection.
