JetBlue Vacations Announces New Partnership With Uber

The airline will be offering $20 Uber vouchers to certain customers.

JetBlue has announced that it will be partnering with Uber to offer JetBlue Vacations customers that meet certain criteria a $20 Uber voucher to assist them in reaching their final destination, according to a press release by the airline on Friday. The announcement comes as the low-cost carrier looks to add to its value proposition in the hopes of reining in new customers.

Who qualifies for the voucher?

Given that the program is still only in its pilot stage, only JetBlue Vacations customers that have purchased a combined flight + hotel package to select destinations qualify for the voucher. As of the time of writing of this article, such destinations include Orlando International Airport (MCO), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), and Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas.

It is unclear at this time if the program will be expanded later on to include additional destinations.

Eligible customers will need to opt into the program when purchasing their tickets to receive a $20 Uber voucher via email that can be used to book a ride.

It is worth noting that the voucher will expire within two weeks of when it is issued and is limited to a geographic radius around the destination airport. Such restrictions aim to ensure that vouchers are used exclusively for their intended purpose.

Customers can choose whether they would like to use their voucher for pick-up or drop-off, but only one voucher will be issued per customer, so they must pick one or the other.

JetBlue Vacations is a special offering by JetBlue that provides customers with the ability to purchase all-inclusive vacation packages. As of right now, such packages come in three varieties: flight + hotel, flight + cruise, and hotel + points.

The initiative aims to take advantage of the fact that a significant proportion of people that are booking a flight will also need to book some sort of accommodation. In such cases, customers may find it cheaper to bundle the two together instead of booking them separately.

In addition to the recently-announced $20 Uber voucher, JetBlue Vacations customers enjoy several other perks, including 24/7 support, priority boarding, and a free in-flight alcoholic drink for those over the age of 21 (although the airline’s non-alcoholic options are excellent as well!).

JetBlue’s announcement that it will be partnering with Uber to provide vouchers to certain JetBlue Vacations customers ultimately comes at a time when the low-cost carrier is looking to step up its game and compete with other airlines that offer similar perks. Given that transportation to and from the airport is an essential component of travel, the move is likely to be received well among JetBlue customers. However, the question remains of just how many people will qualify for the voucher given that it only applies to travelers to three airports. In addition, some customers may be left wondering if $20 will be enough to cover the Uber from the airport to their final destination. Only time will tell if the partnership between JetBlue and Uber ends up being successful, but both companies would do well to keep such questions in mind as they consider the future of the program.
