Colombia to End Quarantine in September – Domestic Flights to Recommence
On August 25, Colombian President Iván Duque announced that on September 1, a new stage of “selective isolation” and “individual distancing” will begin. In this framework, he ratified the resumption of domestic flights only, authorizing all the country’s airports, except those located in cities that still have a COVID-19 high impact.
Colombia ratified its tourist reopening for September 1, starting with the launch of a new stage in the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic. Iván Duque stated that the country will go from the stage of “mandatory preventive isolation” to one of “selective isolation” in which “individual distancing” prevails.
As announced by Civil Aviation, the District Administration of Bogotá requested the authorization to implement 14 domestic air routes from the El Dorado International Airport. This request is part of the first phase of the essential air connectivity project planned by Civil Aeronautics.
In an interview with eltiempo, the Presidential Advisor Víctor Muñoz stated that maritime, land and river border crossings with Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Venezuela will remain closed until October 1.
With this, it is understood that international flights will not be allowed yet, but special humanitarian flights will continue and will increase to various destinations, for purposes of repatriation or essential transit.

The biosafety seal, “Check-in Certificate” is a certification created by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, with the support of ProColombia and Icontec. This certificate is endorsed by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The main objectives of this badge are to generate trust among travelers and consumers, minimize the risks of COVID-19 infections and encourage tourism in the country.
“For the reactivation phase of the tourist industry in Colombia it’s very important to work as a team. For this reason, we congratulate these important terminals for obtaining our biosecurity seal, which constitutes a great step in the agenda that we have been implementing to promote this activity, ”said the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, José Manuel Restrepo in a press release.
Travelers will be able to use the airports of Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Cartagena and Cúcuta with the confidence that all biosecurity protocols are being strictly followed, aimed at minimizing the spread of COVID-19.
However, as announced, The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority has approved the biosecurity protocols of 15 airports in the country. These airports obtained the endorsement of the Ministry of Health and the approval of routes between the air terminals of the Ministry of Interior.
