Air India Express To Reportedly Retain Tail Art In Rebranding

Must read

Summary

  • Air India Express, the low-cost subsidiary of Air India, will reportedly keep old design elements and present them in a new way.
  • The carrier will retain its popular tail art in some form, which showcases India’s art and culture.
  • The new color scheme and font for Air India Express are still unknown, but it is expected to differ from Air India’s branding as the former is a budget carrier.

Air India’s recent rebranding made headlines last week. The Tata Group is working on changing several aspects of the carrier, and a new look and color scheme had been in the works for months. Now, all eyes are set on what its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express would look like. Recent reports have suggested that Air India Express’ new livery will be unveiled soon and that it won’t totally drop its previous look but rather present it in a new way.

Tail art to remain

Low-cost international carrier Air India Express will also undergo a rebranding process in the coming months, and the latest reports suggest that its look will borrow from its old design and present it in a new way.

According to news agency ANI, people aware of the matter have said that Air India Express will retain its popular tail art in its new livery. The carrier’s aircraft have different designs inspired by the art and culture of India, and that will likely remain even after the carrier gets fresh branding. ANI quotes an Air India Express official as saying,

“Future Brand, the company that designed Air India’s new logo, is involved in the rebranding of Air India Express. We have a unique identity when it comes to tail art that beautifully displays India’s art and culture. Under the rebranding, the tail art will be retained but in a new way.”

Currently, the details of its new color scheme are unknown, but sources have revealed that it will differ from that of Air India, given that AI Express is a budget carrier. The airline will also not get a mascot since it never had one, and that will likely not change following the rebranding.

Same agency that did Air India’s branding

In December 2022, the Tata Group roped in Futurebrands, a London-based design consultancy firm, to help give Air India a new brand identity. After months of planning, Air India’s new look was revealed last week at a media event in New Delhi, attended by top airline executives.

Air India unveiled its new colors: deep red, aubergine, and gold. The writing features a new ‘Air India Sans’ font, with the edge of the window designs transformed into ‘The Vista’ logo, which is a mix of old and new, retaining the color palette.

The new look has received mixed reactions from people, but there are still a few more months before it is seen on Air India aircraft. Air India Express is still reportedly deciding which aircraft to debut its new livery on. While the carrier operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet, chances are it could select one of AirAsia India’s Airbus A320 to reveal its new look.
