Wizz Air Adds Eight Routes Out Of Bucharest

Central European budget airline Wizz Air announced eight new routes out of Bucharest on Saturday. Despite a global downturn in air travel, the Budapest-based airline has been branching out and continuing with its expansion plans.

Eight new destinations from Bucharest

Residents of the Romanian capital now have more options when it comes to flying with the budget carrier. Wizz Air has recently announced the following destinations out of Bucharest:

  • Cagliari (Sardegna/Italy)
  • Copenhagen (Denmark)
  • Bergen (Norway)
  • Hamburg (Germany)
  • Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden (Germany)
  • Memmingen (Germany)
  • Santorini (Greece)
  • Mykonos (Greece)

According to Wizz Air, Cagliari is the 11th destination being offered by the airline from Bucharest to Italy and the 2nd in Sardegna, adding to Alghero. Bergen is the second destination in Norway after Oslo. Copenhagen is the second city in Denmark after Billund.

Altogether, the eight new services announced by the airline makes a total of 61 routes to 20 countries from Bucharest. Since 2007 the airline has carried more than 22 million passengers on its Bucharest routes.

With these routes starting in early-August, travelers have over a month to plan their trips into and out of Bucharest:

New health and safety measures onboard

Travelers taking advantage of these new routes will get to experience Wizz Air’s new enhanced hygiene measures, which will “ensure the health and safety of its customers and crew.”

New protocols include:

  • A facemask requirement for crew and passengers throughout the flight
  • The requirement that cabin crew wear gloves
  • An “industry-leading” fogging process with an antiviral solution
  • The removal of onboard magazines
  • The encouragement of all onboard purchases to be made by contactless payment
  • Physical distancing measures
  • And an enhanced daily-cleaning-schedule, which requires overnight disinfection with the aforementioned antiviral solution

With many Europeans cooped up for months in the same place due to lockdown measures, it will be interesting to see how many will take advantage of these new routes.
