The Boeing 737-600 is the smallest of the 737 Next Generation (737NG) family of aircraft. It was not a very successful aircraft, but it has served some airlines well in a few different ways. There are really only a few airlines around the world flying the 737-600, and here are those carriers.
Air Algerie
Air Algerie is the leading airline of Algeria. The airline has a fleet of five Boeing 737-600s in its fleet per Planespotters.net. These jets are about 18 years old.
The 737-600s are useful for the airline’s short-haul operations. The carrier flies these jets to destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. This includes destinations like Alicante, Beirut, and more. Plus, the planes do fly some domestic legs.
The 737-600s have a capacity for 101 passengers. Alongside the 737-600s, Air Algerie also flies Boeing 737-700s that seat 112 passengers and 737-800s that seat either 148 or 162 passengers, depending on the configuration.
Tunisair
Tunisair is the flag carrier of Tunisia. According to data from Planespotters.net, the airline has seven Boeing 737-600s in its fleet. All are about 19-21 years old.
The 737-600 operates several different routes for Tunisair. It serves some flights between Tunisia and Europe to destinations like Frankfurt and Paris. It also performs domestic operations such as between Djerba and Monastir.
According to the airline, the Boeing 737-600s flying for Tunisair seat a maximum of 126 passengers, making it just slightly larger in terms of passenger capacity than the Airbus A319s, but smaller than the Airbus A320s that also fly for Tunisair.
WestJet
Canada’s WestJet is perhaps the most iconic Boeing 737-600 operator. Planespotters.net shows that the airline has 13 of the type in its fleet. These jets are younger at about 14-15 years.
The 737-600s are a big domestic workhorse for the airline. The planes operate from Toronto and Calgary to destinations like Montreal, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Vancouver, Halifax, and more.
WestJet outfits its 737-600s with 113 seats. This includes 12 in the carrier’s premium class. This product sees the airline blocking the middle seat with a divider– similar to most intra-European business class products. The remainder of the aircraft, 101 seats are in a regular economy class configuration. Alongside the -600s, WestJet also has the 737-800, 737-700, and 737 MAX 8.
Janet Airlines
Janet Airlines is not your regular, commercial airlines. Instead, this is an airline that flies for the United States Air Force. It is not officially known by this name, and its planes have no discernable logo or name on its livery. However, the airline does paint its aircraft with a single red stripe along the fuselage where the windows are.
Planespotters.net shows that the airline has six 737-600s in its fleet between 17 and 19 years old. If you want to catch the sight of this aircraft, you’ll most likely catch sight of the jets in Las Vegas.
Former operator: SAS
An honorary mention goes out to SAS, which flew a grand total of 30 737-600s in its fleet before retirement, according to Planespotters.net. SAS waved goodbye to its Boeing 737-600s back at the end of 2019. This made SAS the largest 737-600 operator in history.
