Viva Aerobus Transported More Than 8 Million Passengers in 2020

Viva Aerobus, Mexico’s ultra-low-cost airline, closed the year with more than 8 million passengers flying and a load factor of 80.5%.

Viva Aerobus informed that in December 2020 it registered more than 1.1 million passengers transported, an increase of 15% compared to November 2020. These statistics are also close to the levels of December 2019, when the airline reported just over 1.13 million passengers (a difference of less than 3% between both years).

In addition, it was consolidated as the first Mexican airline to grow its operational capacity, increasing its offer (seats per kilometer available) by 11% in December 2020 compared to the same month in 2019. In this same sense, Viva concluded the year with an offer of 131 routes (103 national and 28 international), 12 more routes than at the end of 2019.

This involved the launch of 28 new routes: 13 national and 15 international during 2020. From Monterrey, new flights began to Havana, San Antonio and Dallas Fort Worth; from Cancun to Aguascalientes, San Luis de Potosí, Houston and the Cuban cities of Havana, Holguín, Santa Clara and Santiago; the domestic route between Mazatlán and Chihuahua; flights from Mérida to the Cuban capital city Havana; domestic routes between Mexico City and Acapulco, Ciudad Obregón, Campeche, Ciudad del Carmen, Chetumal, Durango, La Paz, Los Mochis, Tampico, Veracruz; and, the international routes between Mexico City and Chicago, Dallas Forth Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, San Antonio and Havana.

“2020 represented challenges for the entire sector, but Viva Aerobus’ solid business model, resilience and adaptability, have allowed us to lead in a responsible reactivation by increasing our operation, identifying new market opportunities and achieving a growing preference for travelers; even, last December we almost equaled the number of passengers registered that same month in 2019”, he added.
