Viva Aerobus Increases Its Operations and Plans for November
Viva Aerobus announced that during November it will operate 109 routes (96 domestic and 13 international), which will be adjusted in line with market trends. In addition, this month the carrier will offer the same number of seats registered in November 2019.
In a press release, the Mexican ultra-low-cost-carrier announced that it is the first airline in America to reactivate 100% of its operational capacity.
The Mexican airline announced that this month, as part of this strategy of gradual reactivation, the new route between Cancun and Aguascalientes will start on November 2 and the route between Cancun and San Luis Potosí will begin on November 4; and the ones between Mexico City and Acapulco, Mexico City and Campeche and Mexico City and Chetumal will start on November 12. The airline will start flights between Monterrey and Los Mochis from November 2.
From Monterrey, the new routes will be to San Antonio and Dallas Fort Worth; from Cancun to Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosí; Mazatlán to Chihuahua; and from Mexico City to Acapulco, Campeche, Ciudad del Carmen, Ciudad Obregón, Chetumal, Durango, Los Mochis, Tampico, Veracruz, La Paz, Chicago, Dallas Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Houston and San Antonio.
To this increase in operations was added the news of the arrival of the third Airbus A321neo.
Likewise, Viva Aerobus reported operating and financial results corresponding to the Third Quarter of 2020, which reflected a gradual and consistent reactivation, both in the operation of flights and passengers, immersed in the challenges that the current pandemic has represented regarding the demand for air transport worldwide.
The airline registered more than 1.8 million passengers in the third quarter of the year, an increase of almost 4 times compared to the second quarter.
At the end of the quarter, in September, Viva was operating above 80% of its capacity and with an offer of 95 routes, considering that in June there was a portfolio of 57 active routes. This October, the airline operated 97 routes and announced 20 new services on the way to the new reality: 13 national and 7 international; highlighting the strengthening of connectivity in Mexico City, where they have added 15 of these new routes.
Viva Aerobus, reported that in September 2020 it registered close to 730 thousand passengers, an increase of 12% compared to August last, being the second airline with the highest number of passengers on that month.
During September, Viva operated 94 routes offering a capacity of 87% compared to the same month in 2019, measured in Available Seats per Kilometers (ASK).
Regarding the accumulated total for the year (from January to September) Viva Aerobus reported about 5.2 million passengers and an average load factor of 81.3%. Such results, compared with the same period of 2019, implied a reduction of 40.7% in terms of passengers and a decrease of 7.9% points in the load factor.
