United Airlines has today shared that it is planning to resume operations to over 25 international routes in September. These operations span over Asia, India, Australia, Israel, and Latin America. Moreover, the Chicago-based carrier is continuing to add services to popular vacation destinations in the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Mexico.
A gradual return
As the world gradually hits the skies again following a series of suspensions, airlines are slowly resuming activity. United is looking to perform 37% of its overall schedule in September as compared to the same period last year.
Additionally, this activity would be a 4% increase in capacity compared to what is expected for August. Meanwhile, the airline is extending its waiver of change fees and award redeposit fees for reservations through the end of next month.
Across the nations
Of these September resumptions, 20 of the routes are in Latin America and the Caribbean. Services to hotspots such as Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, and San Jose and Liberia in Costa Rica are being ramped up.
There are also key additions happening across the Atlantic. United has previously shown that it recognizes opportunities to expand on its Israeli services. Therefore, it is seeking to begin a new direct service between Chicago and Tel Aviv. Furthermore, the operator will restart important European services from Houston with flights to Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
Across the Pacific, there will be a three-times-weekly service between Los Angeles and Sydney. Subject to government approval, there will also be a passenger operation between Chicago and Hong Kong.
A careful approach
The company’s press release has an extensive list of the resumptions in September. In the document, Patrick Quayle, United’s Vice President of International Network and Alliances, spoke about his airline’s outlook when it comes to its schedule. United is adding these services after careful analysis.
“We continue to be realistic in our approach to building back our international and domestic schedules by closely monitoring customer demand and flying where people want to go,” Quayle said, as per the press release.
“In September, we’re adding even more options for leisure travelers or those who want to visit friends and relatives, whether that’s within the United States or around the world.”
Useful services
The widespread border closures in Latin America are expected to start being lifted from September. Therefore, United’s increase of flights between Houston and Quito could be useful for several passengers looking to hop between the Americas. Ecuador is one of the few countries in South America that doesn’t have its borders closed to international passengers currently.
Altogether, United will be glad to be adding more international flights to its network in the next few months. The global health crisis has taken its toll on the US aviation industry, and with passenger numbers fluctuating, more overseas routes will allow for extra opportunities during this sensitive period.
