United Airlines will become the first US airline to fly to the Queensland capital of Brisbane, with thrice-weekly flights from late October.
Brisbane Airport has confirmed United Airlines will commence three times a week Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flights from San Francisco on October 28. Speculation had recently mounted regarding these flights following United entering into a partnership with local carrier, Virgin Australia. United Airlines will become the first US-based carrier to fly into the Queensland capital and the only airline offering flights between Brisbane and San Francisco.
Three times a week in both directions
The news is so fresh the flights aren’t yet in the schedules but the Brisbane Airport media statement advises flights are scheduled to commence on Friday, October 28. Thrice-weekly flights will depart San Francisco (SFO) every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The return flights will depart Brisbane (BNE) every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.
United’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners will operate the 7,063 mile (11,367 kilometer) flight. The Dreamliner seats 247 passengers across three cabin classes, including 188 passengers in the main economy cabin, 21 passengers in premium economy (or premium plus in United-speak), and 48 passengers in a business class cabin featuring lie-flat Polaris beds.
“Brisbane Airport is the gateway to Australia, offering 24/7 operations and direct connections to 53 domestic destinations, more than any other airport in the country,” said Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graff on Wednesday. “These new services bring welcome news for jobs and the economy, and offer Queenslanders a direct connection to Silicon Valley and beyond.”
