After arriving back in Ukraine following a beach holiday in Turkey, a woman decided to walk on the aircraft’s wing to cool off. After Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) flight number PS-6212 landed in Kyiv and passengers started to depart, a woman calmly walked up the aisle, opened the emergency exit, and went for a stroll out on the Boeing 737-800s wing.
The mother of two was feeling hot after the 2hr 35m minute flight from the resort city of Antalya and decided to go out on the wing and cool off. As onlookers, including her children, couldn’t believe what they were witnessing, the woman turned around and climbed back into the plane.

According to UK daily tabloid newspaper, The Sun, Ukrainian International Airlines confirmed the incident saying:
“A passenger of flight PS6212 Antalya-Kyiv illegally opened the emergency exit of the plane after it stopped near gate 11 of terminal D and went on to its wing.”

One of the other passengers on the plane relived the incident telling The Sun:
“The aircraft landed, and almost all the passengers got off. She walked almost all the way from the tail to the emergency exit row, opened the door, and went out. By that time, her two children were outside the plane and standing right next to me. They were surprised, saying, ‘that’s our mum.”
Emergency services were called
After realizing what had happened, the pilot summoned Kyiv Boryspil International Airport (KBP) security and medical services to detain the woman and see if she needed help.
As it turns out, the woman was perfectly fine, neither drunk nor on drugs, but just wanted to get some fresh air.
When asked later about what had happened, a spokesperson for Ukrainian International Airlines said:
“The passenger was flying on a charter vacation with her husband and children.
“The chief pilot immediately summoned the aviation security, border service, police and medical center of Boryspil Airport.
“The passenger was blacklisted for gross violation of aviation safety rules and behavior onboard.”
UIA has accused the woman of demonstrating poor parenting skills and are calling on the Ukraine authorities to hit her with a hefty fine.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only Ukrainian citizens are allowed back into the country until September 18.
Some people think rules are not for them
While there is no defense for doing what the woman did, it shows that having to wear a face mask on a plane for more than two hours is no fun! What would even possess a passenger to open an emergency exit in the first place unless it was an actual emergency? If the woman was feeling hot and just needed fresh air, why did she not just stick her head out of the door rather than decide to walk on the wing?
If we delve into this more in-depth, we could develop all kinds of reasons why she did it rather than to cool off. Sadly we see examples of people who think that the rules do not apply to them, and this might just have been one of them.
