Spirit Airlines proudly announced today that it will start flying daily from Santa Ana’s John Wayne Airport to Las Vegas McCarran International Airport and Oakland International Airport. Services to these two cities from the Orange County hub will start on November 17th. With this move, the low-cost carrier now operates at six airports across California.
Strong network
This ramping up of services in the Golden State gives Spirit a strong presence across the Pacific Coast. The airline first launched flights to California two decades ago, and it has managed to grow effectively over the years. Operations to the Los Angeles basin are now bolstered with the addition of Santa Ana. The carrier already flew to LAX and Burbank, but now there are even more options for travelers in the region.
Additionally, the company serves San Diego, along with the northern cities of Sacramento and Oakland. Therefore, it can provide a well-rounded offering across the West Coast.
Along with access to several key economic hubs across California and neighboring states, several popular tourist destinations can be flown to from these airports. Las Vegas is just over an hour flight from airports near Los Angeles, while Disneyland is only a 15-minute drive from Santa Ana.
Regular operations
According to a press release seen by Simple Flying, from November, Spirit’s California services will be split by the following:
- Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR): Up to 2x daily
- John Wayne Airport (SNA): 3x daily
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX): Up to 25x daily
- Oakland International Airport (OAK): Up to 5x daily
- Sacramento International Airport (SMF): Up to 3x daily
- San Diego International Airport (SAN): Up to 5x daily
The flights from Santa Ana will head for Oakland twice a day and depart for Las Vegas once a day. Spirit’s vice president of network planning, John Kirby, said his company is delighted to allow its passengers to have more choice. He highlighted that those in the Los Angeles area now have more alternatives.
“We are excited to bring more low-cost options to our Southern California Guests with new service to John Wayne Airport,” Kirby said, as per the press release.
“Whether it’s a quick trip to Las Vegas or to the Bay Area, Los Angeles area residents will love our low fares, signature service and on-time performance.”
Valuable offerings
Meanwhile, the director of John Wayne Airport, Barry Rondinella, also said that his team is excited to welcome Spirit. He emphasized that the operator joins the hub’s diverse group of carriers with routes servicing, giving extra opportunities for those in the area.
Altogether, passengers will be delighted to have more choice when flying to and from Southern California. The Los Angeles traffic is infamous across the globe. Therefore, if Spirit customers can cut a car journey down to Orange County, this Santa Ana addition will be more than welcome.
