South American Major Carriers Increase Domestic and International Routes

Two of  South America’s biggest airlines, LATAM, Avianca and Aeroméxico, have announced an increase of its domestic and international routes. As known, these carriers are facing debt structuring processes under Chapter 11 protection of the United States Code, but they are on continuous reactivation as the economy of the region is recovering.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on the world economy and the travel industry, but as many airlines have reinforced their own hygiene and biosecurity protocols and many countries have started vaccination programs, carriers continue to gradually to reactivate their respective route network.

In line with the commitment to strengthen its network with routes that directly link the regions in Colombia without stopovers in Bogotá, from March 28, Avianca customers will be able to fly on the new route between Cartagena and San Andrés.

In a press release, Silvia Mosquera, Avianca’s Commercial Executive Vice President, stated that “the launch of the route between Cartagena and San Andrés, in addition to the Pereira and Cartagena, and Pereira and Santa Marta routes that we recently launched, shows our commitment to continue strengthening direct flights and facilitating our clients’ travel plans in the regions. We will continue to adapt our product to today’s customer, who is preferring to travel on domestic routes, on time and with a more simplified product”.

Likewise, the airline will resume 10 national and international routes, which it had temporarily suspended due to the impacts of COVID-19.

The routes that will start from March 28 are the following: Bogotá – Orlando, Bogotá – Guatemala City, Barranquilla – Miami, Barranquilla – Cali, Medellín – Montería, Houston – San Salvador and San Salvador – Toronto.

The routes that will start from April 2 are the following: Guatemala City – Los Angeles and Guatemala City – San José.

The routes that will start from April 7 are the following: Mexico City – San Salvador.

LATAM Airlines launched a new edition of Travel Sale, from March 22 to 29, with more than 50 destinations in promotion in Chile, North America, the Caribbean and Europe.

In a press release, the carrier had offered 50,600 tickets to travel between April 1 and September 30, 2021. Passengers will be able to experience the new, simpler and user-friendly digital platform at latam.com, as well as obtain preferential discounts with payment with LATAM Pass miles. LATAM Travel also offers tour packages within Chile, North America and the Caribbean. The main tour packages are to Punta Cana, Miami and Santiago.

Domestic tickets in this special offer are those for the routes from Santiago and Puerto Montt, Calama, Antofagasta, La Serena, Copiapó and Punta Arenas. The international routes included in the travel sale are those from Santiago to Miami, Madrid, Punta Cana, Lima and Bogotá. In addition, purchases can be made between 3 to 12 payments without interest with Santander Bank credit cards.
