Singapore Airlines has decided to scrap its plan for flights to nowhere. But it’s not all bad news, because, over the next few weeks, the airline will be offering fans the chance to ‘Discover Your Singapore Airlines’. One of the most exciting propositions on the table is a full dining experience onboard the Airbus A380.
A very plane restaurant
Singapore Airlines appears to have given up on its plan to operate flights to nowhere. However, it hasn’t given up on getting passengers back onto its planes. In the coming weeks, the airline will be offering up its Airbus A380 as a somewhat unusual restaurant.

For just two days, the A380 will play host to Singapore Airlines guests to enjoy a full inflight dining experience on the ground. Diners can pick their cabin class and enjoy the attentive service of SIA’s flight attendants while being served the airline’s signature international dishes onboard the plane. Singapore Airlines is also offering dishes from its Peranakan menu, specially designed by acclaimed Singaporean chef Shermay Lee.
To complement the experience, the airline staff will be wearing a showcase of cabin crew uniforms from the past. Diners are encouraged to turn up sporting traditional heritage attire, which the airline says can range from sarongs and sarees to a kilt. Those making the effort will get a special gift from the airline.
Before the meal, diners are invited to an exclusive tour of the A380. The carrier promises even to reveal some of the private access areas not usually seen by passengers. Guests can also enjoy a couple of alcoholic drinks on the house and a free flow of other drinks while dining. The IFE will be all fired up to provide the full selection of over 1,000 entertainment options, including movies and music.
Restaurant A380 @Changi is only open for two days – October 24th and 25th. The airline hasn’t yet revealed details of the pricing for the experience, but tickets will go on sale at the Kris Shop from October 12th.
Discover your Singapore Airlines
The experience is all part of a project the airline is calling Discover Your Singapore Airlines. In addition to the A380 restaurant experience, Singapore Airlines is offering a rare behind the scenes tour of its training center.
Taking place over two weekends in late November, the airline will bring visitors into its training center for guided tours and activities. Participants will be able to take a look at the history of the airline, as well as how cabin crew undergo training and what SIA is doing on sustainability. They can even add on a run in the flight simulator, a wine tasting experience, or a makeup session and how to achieve the ‘Singapore Girl’ look.
There is also an option to enjoy SIA’s finest catering in the comfort of your own home. From October 5th, Singapore Airlines will deliver a meal for two right to the home of Singaporean residents, complete with wine and champagne. Those used to the premium experience can pick the first or business class experience, complete with exclusive SIA tableware.
The Discover Your Singapore Airlines experiences have replaced the previously mooted ‘flight to nowhere’ due to market research. The airline told the Straits Times that the decision not to fly came about following feedback from customers and a review of the financial and environmental implications. SIA chief executive Goh Choon Phong said,
“There has been a lot of interest in our customer engagement initiatives over the last few weeks, and I would like to thank everyone for their great ideas and suggestions. We are very encouraged by and grateful for the enthusiasm and passion that we have seen.”
