Serbia and Georgia signed an Air Service Agreement last week along with an accompanying Memorandum of Understanding between the respective civil aviation authorities of the two countries. The agreement establishes the regulatory and operational framework necessary for the launch of flights between the two countries this coming Sunday. The bilateral agreement defines the legal basis for the operation of regular international air traffic, while the Memorandum of Understanding enables direct cooperation between the two aviation authorities in technical, regulatory and safety matters. There are no restrictions on frequnecies or destinations within the new agreement.
The Serbian Minister for Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Aleksandra Sofronijević, emphasised that the agreement marks the beginning of a new chapter in Serbia – Georgia relations. Air Serbia will commence a new three weekly service between Belgrade and Tbilisi this Sunday. “In the year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Georgia, this flight carries strong symbolic significance. It is not merely a link between two airports; it is a bridge between two nations. It connects us as friends, collaborators and partners”, Ms Sofronijević said.
