Relive “The Terminal” – Singapore Airport Launches Overnight Stays

Must read

As airlines and airports worldwide come up with novel ways to make money during the COVID-19 pandemic, Singapore Changi Airport is giving people the chance to relive “The Terminal.” First, we had sightseeing flights to nowhere and then dining aboard Airbus A380s, and now we have airports offering you the chance to sleep overnight in the terminal.

In case you don’t know, the reference to “The Terminal” is to Steven Speilberg’s 2004 movie of the same name starring Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Stanley Tucci. In the movie, Hanks plays an Eastern European man who becomes stuck at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport after being denied entry into the United States. While not being able to enter America, he cannot return home either following a military coup in his country of origin and ends up living in the airport.

Changi Airport is rated as the best

One thing is for sure, and that is if you ever had to pick an airport to be stuck in, Singapore’s award-winning Changi Airport would be on most people’s list of first choices. Starting November 20 and running till January 3, people will be allowed to spend the night at the airport, sleeping under the stars.

While most of us may have endured sleeping on uncomfortable benches or a quiet corner while waiting for a flight, the Singapore Airport experience is pure luxury. Called “Glampication in the clouds,” overnight airport guests will spend the night sleeping in a yurt on the airports’ highest floor with plush blankets and pillows.

Shiseido Forest Valley

For those who prefer more of an outdoor feel, the airport’s Shiseido Forest Valley is also open for overnight stays. Various size yurts are available and can accommodate three adults or a Changi Airportfamily of four. The yurts in the Shiseido Forest Valley are slightly larger and are suitable for four adults or two adults and three children. Both Singapore airport glamping experiences are priced at S$320 ($238) during the week and S$360 ($267) on weekends. Included in the ticket price are the following extra perks:

  • Changi Experience Studio tickets (Single Day Entry Ticket) OR Manulife Sky Nets – Bouncing (Single admission)https://simpleflying.com/singapore-changi-airport-connection-time/
  • Canopy Park tickets (Single Day Entry)
  • Sparkling Christmas at Jewel (Shiseido Forest Valley Entry)
  • Jurassic Mile Dino Plush Toy
  • Jewel Privilege Pass for shopping discounts
  • Free parking

Toiletries are also included, and overnight guests can shower at the YotelAIR or the Changi Lounge, depending on their glamping location.

How about a Glam-picnic?

If staying overnight at the airport is not your thing, you can hang out at the airport during the day and experience a Glam-picnic. The airport provides tablecloths, cutlery, a cooler box with ice and wine glasses, but you have to bring your own food and drinks. The three-hour time slots are available for S$160 ($119) during the week and S$180 ($134) on weekends.

While the sightseeing flights to nowhere were a good idea and Singapore Airlines dining on an A380 was a big success, I am not sure how popular the glamping will be.
