Qatar Airways yesterday announced that it is offering 100 days of free Super WiFi connectivity for its passengers. This initiative marks the airline’s achievement of fitting over 100 of its planes with high-speed broadband.
Staying connected
According to a press release, the flag carrier of Qatar is running this promotion from September 25th until January 2nd. The airline hopes to keep customers connected with their families, friends, and colleagues while in the skies.
Altogether, the Doha-based carrier now operates the largest number of aircraft with high-speed internet connectivity in Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Since 2018, their planes have been equipped with GX Aviation technology from global mobile satellite communications outfit, Inmarsat. Qatar Airways states that this technology enables speeds that are faster than standard WiFi.
Travelers on these aircraft are usually provided with up to an hour of free onboard WiFi. After that, they can purchase access for the full flight if desired. Additionally, fliers don’t need to download the Qatar Airways app to use the service. They can connect to the internet with any WiFi-enabled device that they are traveling with.
Continuing to provide
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, highlighted that his company continues to lead and innovate during this challenging climate. The airline maintains its passion for providing its passengers with the five-star experience they have come to expect.
“Not only does this showcase the exceptional Qatar Airways service at a time when other airlines are using the current market challenges as a reason to reduce their Wi-Fi offerings,” Al Baker said, as per the press release.
“It also proves that our mission to connect people around the world does not start and end with just travel. We understand the importance, especially in recent months, of enabling people to be connected at all times, whether on-the-ground or 35,000ft in-the-air.”
A cut above
The demand for inflight WiFi is rising these days amid the nature of society becoming connected continuously. However, due to the complicated methodology of implementing such a service, not all airlines provide high-quality WiFi.
Nonetheless, Qatar Airways often ranks at the top of the list with its high-speed offering. During these anxious times, there will undoubtedly be plenty of fliers glad that they can be connected for free while flying high.
