Qantas has debuted a new in-flight safety video that dispenses with the much-maligned exotic destinations and “travelogue” feel of its previous outing.
The four-minute video, which premiered on 28 February, is filmed mostly on board aircraft and focuses more on Qantas’ reputation for safety, with scenes also including an opening sequence on the runway at Western Sydney Airport and shots inside Qantas training centres.

“For over 100 years, safety has been our number one priority. You’re about to hear from the people who make us one of the world’s safest airlines,” the video’s voiceover says.
The new video also includes directions around power banks, which have been banned from in-flight usage following several high-profile fires.
“Safety videos are a critical part of flying and are complimentary to the role that our cabin crew play to deliver safety messages to our customers,” said Qantas Group’s executive manager for operational safety, Mark Cameron.
“Our latest safety video is filmed on board our aircraft and in our training centres and features our people demonstrating key safety information for our customers.”
Qantas refreshes its safety videos every couple of years, in line with most major airlines, and aims to balance the communication of important safety information with the need to capture and hold passengers’ attention.
Its previous video, released in 2024, was around twice as long, and attracted criticism from corners such as the Flight Attendants’ Association of Australia (FAAA) for seeming more focused on promoting the airline and its destinations than on safety.
Teri O’Toole, federal secretary of the FAAA, who said the old video was ill-suited for its purpose of getting across vital safety information, has praised its replacement for better communicating what passengers need to know.
“We are pleased that Qantas has taken onboard the feedback the FAAA and Health and Safety Reps provided on the last safety video,” she told Australian Aviation.
“Cabin Crew are first responders and safety is at the core of everything they do, and so having a safety video that is reflective of the situational awareness of an aircraft is critical to dealing with emergencies and saving lives.
“This video is clear and directional and gives insights into how passengers can confidently deal with emergencies.”
Qantas’ 2024 video was shot on location in various destinations served by the Flying Kangaroo and its partners, including Litchfield National Park in the Northern Territory, Los Angeles, and Paris.
