PLAY Launches Ticket Sales For New Winter Getaways

Icelandic low-cost carrier PLAY Airlines last week unveiled ticket sales in anticipation of its new scheduled service to Verona, Italy, and Fuerteventura, Gran Canary. The move will give passengers more options to travel around the globe with the airline.

PLAY said it has become a leading choice for travelers due to its commitment to exceptional service and seamless travel experiences. The airline’s debut of its newest destinations to join its route network is expected to occur next year.

“A fantastic travel experience”

Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY Airlines, spoke about the new service in a statement.

“We are excited to add Verona and Fuerteventura to our growing list of destinations and to offer citizens of Verona and Fuerteventura the opportunity to visit Iceland with PLAY Airlines. We believe these new destinations will provide travelers with even more options for a fantastic travel experience.”

PLAY will inaugurate flights from Reykjavik, Iceland, to Verona on Saturdays starting January 20, 2024. Verona is an Italian city in the heart of the Vento region featuring Italy’s culture, food, and nature.

“Visitors can indulge in the city’s delicious culinary scene and enjoy a glass of local wine while exploring the historic center, or take a day trip to the nearby ski resorts for some winter fun,” the airline said. “Some of the best ski resorts near Verona include Madonna di Campiglio, Folgaria, and Alpe Cimbra.”

Flights to Verona are scheduled to be seasonal service, ending on February 24, 2024.

Service to Fuerteventura

PLAY will begin service to Fuerteventura this December to cater to any travelers who wish to escape the winter cold in Iceland. On December 20, 2023, the airline will inaugurate flights to the second-largest Canary Island of Spain once a week on Wednesdays.

“This stunning island in the Canary Islands is renowned for its warm weather and sandy beaches,” the carrier explained. “Visitors can explore the island’s unique landscapes, go hiking or surfing, and experience the local culture.”

The service to Fuerteventura will also be seasonal, expecting to run until April 10, 2024.

PLAY also mentioned that the airline offers several adventures throughout Iceland to visitors from Verona and Fuerteventura. Passengers can fly to Reykjavik and connect to other destinations through the carrier, allowing them to discover the features and experiences of Iceland, such as lagoons, waterfalls, and the Northern Lights.

Huge growth

The announcement of the new seasonal flights to Verona and Fuerteventura comes as PLAY has grown its route network significantly. The airline has announced new service to Washington DC, Amsterdam, and Warsaw in the past two months.

Last week, the carrier reported its first quarter financial report, in which it carried more than 200,000 passengers during the first three months of the year. As a result, PLAY more than tripled its first-quarter revenues during the same period the year prior. In February, the carrier also recently celebrated its one-millionth passenger to be flown, nearly two years after commencing operations.

The startup airline has a fleet size of 9 Airbus A320neo family aircraft. A 10th aircraft is currently being prepared to enter service.
