KLM Announces Six New Intercontinental Services for winter Sun-seekers – AirlineGeeks.com

The new destinations include Mombasa, Kenya; Orlando; Cancun; Bridgetown, Barbados; Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and Phuket, Thailand. Flights to Mombasa will be combined with those to Nairobi on the return journey to Amsterdam. Orlando and Miami will be combined in the same system. In addition, Phuket will be served both to and from Amsterdam via Kuala Lumpur. Bridgetown and Port of Spain will also be combined while Cancun will be served via a non-stop flight.

The Kenyan coastal destination of Mombasa will be served twice weekly and operated with the Boeing 787-9 jetliner. The same aircraft model will be used to operate flights to Orlando in Florida operating four times weekly and to the Mexican beach resort of Cancun, which will operate three times weekly.

KLM, however, will utilize its Airbus A330 jetliner to fly customers to Bridgetown, operating three times weekly, and to Port of Spain, operating three times weekly as well. The Thai island of Phuket will be served with four flights per week and will see service from one of the airline’s Boeing 777-300 jetliners.

“For KLM, this represents the next, significant step towards rebuilding its network for the benefit of our customers. As many as 99 destinations in Europe will be served during summer and, with this latest expansion, KLM’s intercontinental network will also be significantly strengthened for winter,” said KLM CEO Pieter Elbers in a statment.

KLM is doing everything possible to maintain its network of destinations, carrying cargo and enabling passengers to travel when necessary and abiding by the rules and regulations prescribed by both the local authorities and the Dutch government, to uphold effective and proportionate measures tailored to the Covid-19 situation in the Netherlands and abroad.

With this strategy, the goal is to enable  KLM to completely rebuild its network and offer customers the greatest possible choice of destinations while still garnering the necessary traffic, likely leading to the airline’s focus on leisure destinations.
