On July 24th, Kuwait carrier Jazeera Airways announced that it would be starting service to Trabzon, Turkey commencing August 3rd. The service will run twice weekly, every Monday and Friday. The low-cost carrier hopes to tap into the destination as a tourist hot spot for those traveling from Kuwait.
Coming out of air travel lockdown
It was in mid-March that Kuwait closed off its airport to commercial passenger air travel. This meant any flights landing and departing Kuwait International Airport were strictly cargo or special repatriation agreements.
This action took away substantial business activity from airlines like Jazeera Airways, which indeed ended up running cargo-only flights as well as some repatriation-services.
Jazeera Airways’ CEO Rohit Ramachandran expressed excitement that a new destination was being introduced after four months of flight suspensions at Kuwait International Airport.
Trabzon as a tourist destination
With the addition of Trabzon, Jazeera Airways will now be operating 11 flights per week to four airports in Turkey, namely Istanbul International Airport, Sabiha Gokcen International Airport, Milas-Bodrum Airport, and Trabzon Airport.
In a prepared statement, Ramachandran continued by saying:
“Turkey has always been a great destination with high demand for tourism, so it was only natural to introduce a new getaway in the country for our passengers to explore the historical landmarks, attractions and rich culture that lies on the Black Sea coast.” -Rohit Ramachandran, Chief Executive Officer, Jazeera Airways
Overlooking the Black Sea, Trabzon is located in the northeast of Turkey and is known for the Trabzon Castle as well as for its seaside mountains. It is here in Trabzon that “one can enjoy the rich culinary palette of the Turkish cuisine,” the airline states.
Jazeera Airways’ biosafety measures
With flights resuming at Kuwait International Airport on August 1st, Jazeera Airways will be doing the same as most airlines around the world and implementing new biosafety measures to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
“Jazeera Airways has taken every safety and precautionary measure on its aircraft and terminal T5 to ensure passengers fly safely,” the airline notes.
As such, Jazeera Airways will have the following precautions in place:
- Passengers must check-in online and download their boarding pass on the Jazeera App or print it from the website.
- Check-in is also available up to 24 hours before the flight departure at a specialized site located at the Terminal 5 Car Park.
- An anti-viral disinfection program where cabins are fumigated using anti-viral high-pressure disinfection sprays.
- Advanced onboard filtration systems are replaced frequently, removing dust, allergens, bacteria, viruses, and other irritating particles.
- Crew will wear full protective gear, which is disinfected before boarding flights.
- Passengers are mandated to wear medical face masks and gloves at all times.
- Passengers receive a hygiene pack and pre-packed closed food bags to avoid the risk of contamination.
