Eurowings’ special A320, painted with a Borussia Dortmund livery, is set to operate out of the city regularly over the summer. Eurowings has expanded its services from Dortmund, adding six new appealing summer destinations to Spain, Italy and Greece to its schedule.

The A320 (registration: D-AIZR) will be in Dortmund regularly to serve the expanded schedule. The aircraft was painted with special black and yellow colors and has become a favorite with Borussia Dortmund fans.

At just over eight years old, D-AIZR began life under Lufthansa in 2013 before it was acquired on lease by Eurowings in 2015. It was painted in its special livery in June 2016 and operated its first flight with the full Dortmund team onboard that summer.

Eurowings will station a second plane in Dortmund to cope with increased demand from June 2021, which will see the BVB Mannschafts-Airbus visiting Dortmund a lot more.

According to a statement from Eurowings, the special A320,

“…. will be a regular guest in Dortmund in the future and take off from its home airport in the Ruhr region. This means that BVB fans from the Ruhr region will have the opportunity to meet “their plane” even more often than in the past.”

The airline’s new offerings from Dortmund will complement its existing flights to Mallorca (Spain), Split (Croatia) and domestic flights to Munich. From June, Eurowings will fly to Mallorca up to 16 times a week, while its Munich service will run up to 11 times a week.

Jens Bischof, Eurowings CEO, said,

“Dortmund is not only the home of our partner Borussia Dortmund, but it is also where the roots of Eurowings lie. Together with all Dortmund residents, we are pleased that the ‘BVB Mannschafts-Airbus’ can now take off from here more frequently.”

You can still book the middle seat from 10 euros

Last month, Eurowings announced its passengers can purchase middle seats at a lower price in an effort to encourage social distancing. The airline reduced its minimum middle seat rate from 18 euros ($22) to 10 euros ($12), provided there are sufficient seats available on the flight. Passengers are able to book a middle seat up to 40 minutes before departure.
