Embraer Strengthens Its Lufthansa Technik Cabin Management System

Summary

  • Embraer partners with Lufthansa Technik to upgrade cabin management systems in its newest business jet, the Phenom 100EX.
  • Lufthansa Technik’s central Passenger Service System (PSS) will improve cabin lighting, temperature control, and lavatory controls.
  • The collaboration between Embraer and Lufthansa Technik brings together innovative expertise and design DNA to deliver an exceptional cabin experience and improved safety features.

Following the announcement of its newest business jet, the Phenom 100EX, Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer is set to expand its partnership with Lufthansa Technik for its cabin management systems.

Upgraded features

In a statement shared by Lufthansa Technik on Monday, the German maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider confirmed it would begin working closely alongside Embraer to supply the Phenom 100EX with its central Passenger Service System (PSS). Senior Director OEM Business at Lufthansa Technik Christiane Grude explained,

“Our cabin management system »nice« – with its elegant design, intuitive user interface and high quality audio and video performance has been well received by Embraer’s affluent executive jet customers since its debut on the Phenom 300E… We are proud to be able to deliver real added value to Embraer’s customers.”

Lufthansa Technik’s PSS for the upgraded version of the popular light jet will improve current comfort features, including cabin lighting, temperature regulation, and lavatory controls. The system is controlled by the Upper Tech Panel (UTP) developed by Lufthansa Technik, a streamlined polycarbonate and LED-lit feature with touch controls, also used on the Phenom 300E.

Jay Beever, VP of Design Operations at Embraer Executive Jets, noted the improved collaboration between the two companies and its positive impact on the customer experience within Embraer’s private jets,

“Lufthansa Technik’s innovative expertise, combined with Embraer’s Design DNA, comes together to offer customers the exceptional cabin experience they’ve come to expect only onboard an Embraer business jet. Together with unprecedented features like the Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System, it makes the Phenom 100EX a significant improvement in both passenger experience and safety.”

Jetting off

Embraer’s Phenom 100EX and its new Lufthansa Technik cabin are set to be displayed at the American National Business Aviation Association (NBAA-BACE) in Las Vegas this week, making its formal debut to the aviation industry.

The Phenom 100EX is a contemporary upgrade on Embraer’s Phenom 100, launched in 2008, cutting over 190 lbs of weight, expanding cabin space, and overhauling comfort for private travelers while updating the aircraft’s avionics and cabin management systems.

Listed at just under $5 million, the Phenom 100EX is set to enter into service later this year, with demand and order backlogs keeping the jet effectively “sold out” through 2024.

The jet will feature the current Lufthansa Technik Network Integrated Cabin Equipment (nice); however, the company is eyeing further development of the systems. The next generation of nice is reportedly set to enter the market in 2025, overhauling the current digital platform.

Speaking to AIN earlier this month, Grude noted the continued interest in the in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, with Embraer, Bombardier, and Pilatus all featuring it on select modes of business aircraft.

Over 1,500 nice systems have been delivered since the program’s launch in 2003, with expansion happening rapidly since 2019 amid the pandemic-induced surge in demand for private aircraft. The future system remains under development, with Lufthansa Technik examining 5G and other in-flight data transmission systems and display technologies, among other features.
