The fifth-busiest airport in the United States will celebrate the opening of a brand new lounge at the start of next week. Denver International Airport had added the American Express Centurion Lounge to its facilities, which will open on February 1st. This new lounge will mark American Express’ 14th Centurion Lounge, the second-largest of its kind to date. Here’s what travelers flying from and through Denver International’s Concourse C Mezzanine can expect.
The 14th Centurion Lounge
American Express’ 14th Centurion Lounge is located in the Concourse C Mezzanine at Denver International Airport (DEN). Opening on February 1st, 2021. the new lounge will cover more than 14,000-square-feet, making it the second-largest Centurion Lounge location, next to New York JFK’s 15,000-square-foot facility. As part of a press release seen by Simple Flying, the following statement was issued:
“We’re excited to unveil a new Centurion Lounge at one of the most frequented airports by our Premium Card Members, Denver International Airport, and provide a safe and comfortable space for our Card Members as they look to start their travels again…We collaborated closely with local partners to design a space that brings to life all of the unique offerings of Denver, from their renowned craft brewery and culinary scene, to the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains.” –Alexander Lee, Vice President of Travel Experiences and Benefits
What can we expect to see here?
Let’s look at the features that can make or break any airport lounge and see where the Centurion Lounge stands.
Unique refreshments: American Express notes that the new location will host a variety of locally inspired amenities, including the company’s first-ever Craft Beer Bar. On offer will be rotating selections of some of Colorado’s best local brews.
Dining options: For something more filling, the lounge will have a locally sourced Italian-inspired menu designed by an award-winning chef. Additionally, this lounge will be the first in the network to include a live-action cooking station, where Card Members will be able to enjoy customizable dishes prepared à la carte. “The menu will rotate daily so that guests can enjoy freshly made breakfast and lunch items, such as Gubana French Toast and Rigatoni al Portonat,” American Express notes.
A games room: For larger lounges around the world, we are increasingly seeing more “active” entertainment options. At this new Denver lounge, guests have access to a games room, which will include pool and shuffleboard tables, as well as “custom, large-scale classics such as Connect Four and Checkers.” Games will be cleaned and sanitized after each use.
Staying safe and clean
Lounges have had to change drastically since the beginning of the global health crisis. Denver’s Centurion Lounge is no exception.
The lounge has a list of health-and-safety practices in place as part of its “Centurion Lounge Commitment .” Practices include but are not limited to:
- Socially distanced seating,
- Reduced capacity,
- Increased cleaning frequency,
- Requirements to wear a face-covering
- and served food instead of buffets
“We are happy to be able to offer Card Members a new place to enjoy and rest their feet while they wait for their flight…It’s a pleasure to welcome our first non-airline lounge to Denver, and to welcome the American Express Centurion Lounge to the DEN family.” -Kim Day, CEO, Denver International Airport
American Express also has plans to open a new location at London Heathrow later this year. It will also be expanding its locations at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, New York’s LaGuardia Airport, and Las Vegas McCarran International Airport.
