In three years, Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras has increased its flights to/from Rio de Janeiro by 37%.
Increasing Carioca operations
Reinforcing its commitment to offer increased connectivity for passengers in Brazil and in recognition of the importance of the state of Rio de Janeiro to Brazil’s economy, Azul increased the number of flights in the state by 37% since November 2019. This increase equates to 24,000 available seats on a weekly basis for those flying to and from the state of Rio de Janeiro. Azul has serviced the state since March 2009, just three months after its first commercial flight. The airline fully believes in the potential of the state, both touristic and corporate. Because of this, Azul constantly evaluates its offerings in the region and the best options for those passengers traveling for leisure and business travel, both domestically and internationally.

Currently, the airline has about 50 daily direct operations in the state of Rio de Janeiro, including connecting passengers to six capitals and Campinas, where Azul’s hub is located. Passengers traveling from Rio can fly directly to São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Salvador, Vitória, and Campinas. Following its commitment to connect smaller cities to capital cities and international destinations, whether it be on Azul operated flights or flights operated by partner airlines. Azul services other airports in the state of Rio de Janeiro, with regular operations in Cabo Frio (a very popular tourist destination a few hours north of the city of Rio de Janeiro), Campos, and Macaé.

In December 2019, Azul had six weekly flights in Macaé, offering 420 seats. Beginning next month, Azul will offer 80 weekly flights and a total 2,184 seats, increases of more than 1,200% and 420%, respectively. In Campos, the airline will increase from eight weekly flights to 60, increasing its seat capacity from 560 to 13,994. Campos flights will see an increase of 650%, and seat offerings will increase by 2,400%.
“The most magical fleet in the world”
Azul Linhas Aéreas partnered with Disney World to create the “most magical fleet in the world”, a fleet of four aircraft, each with one Disney character as the livery.

Since last year, the airline has taken delivery of the first three aircraft and the character of the fourth aircraft was recently revealed. The first aircraft to arrive was Mickey Mouse, followed by Minnie, and then Donald Duck. A few weeks ago, the airline revealed that the fourth and final aircraft of the fleet will be Daisy Duck.
