American Airlines continues to re-open Admirals Club lounges across the United States. By the end of May, the Dallas-based airline says it will have 27 lounges open across 21 cities in the United States. In addition, international outpost Admirals Club lounges have reopened in São Paulo and Mexico City.
What Admirals Club lounge are open and what lounges are not
According to American Airlines, Admirals Club lounges are now open in Austin (Gate 22), Boston (Terminal B), Charlotte (Concourses B and C), Chicago O’Hare (Concourse H/K), Dallas/Fort Worth (Terminals A, B, C, and D), Denver (Concourse A), Houston Intercontinental (Terminal A), Los Angeles (Terminal 4), Mexico City, Miami (Gate D30), Nashville (Concourse C), New York Kennedy (Terminal 8 in the Flagship Lounge), New York LaGuardia (Concourse D), Orange County (Gate 8), Orlando (Gate 55), Philadelphia (Terminals B/C), Phoenix (Gate A7 and B5), Raleigh/Durham (Terminal 2), San Francisco (Terminal 1), Sao Paulo, Tampa (Gate 85), and Washington Reagan (Terminal C).
On Monday, American Airlines announced they were reopening Admirals Club lounges at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (Gate B7), Miami International (Gate D15), and Atlanta Airport before the end of May.
The airline does add a couple of provisos. Across the lounges, opening hours will vary, and CDC guidelines or local orders or restrictions may limit capacity.
Meanwhile, the following Admirals Club lounges remain closed until further notice; Buenos Aires, Chicago O’Hare (Concourse G and L), Dallas / Fort Worth (Terminal E), Honolulu, London Heathrow, Los Angeles (Terminal 5 and at the Eagle Regional Terminal), Miami (Gate E), Newark, Paris, Philadelphia (Terminal A and F), Phoenix (Gate A19), Rio de Janeiro, St. Louis (Concourse C), Toronto, and Washington Reagan (Terminal B).
American Airlines steps up its lounge food offering
With more Admirals Club lounges reopening, American Airlines is taking the opportunity to rejig their lounge food offerings.
“As we welcome customers back to the skies, we have been eager to expand signature
offerings that everyone in the family, including kids, can enjoy,” says American Airlines’ Clarissa Sebastian.
“Starting May 5, revamped signature food-for-sale items such as chilled quinoa salad, southwestern power bowl, cheesy tater tots and bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich will be available all day in select lounges.
“American will expand offerings for children like chicken bites and cheddar sandwiches at all locations. Children’s rooms have also reopened inside Admirals Club lounges.”
Depending on your view of whether children and airport lounges mix well, this could be a good or bad development.
American Airlines says hungry and thirsty lounge dwellers can continue to expect complimentary hot food, signature dishes for sale, and packaged snacks, disposable, single-use glassware, the all important full-service bar, touchless menus with signage and QR codes (physical menus will be available upon request). The airline adds self-serve areas will remain closed.
American Airlines continues to roll out touchless technology
American Airlines is also using its Terminal A Dallas/Fort Worth Admirals Club lounge as the guinea pig in touchless entry trials and digital food and drink orders.
Starting May 6, passengers who choose to participate in the trial will enjoy quick, easy entry to the Dallas/Fort Worth Admirals Club. Admirals Club membership will automatically be verified using facial technology without passengers having to pull out a wallet or phone. Later this month, passengers will also be able to order food and beverages using their own mobile devices. Gloved and masked team members will serve the orders.
Meanwhile, American Airlines continues with its touchless bag drops at both Dallas/Fort Worth and Washington Reagan Airports. The airline hopes to expand this to other airports soon. The trend is part of a push to expand what American Airlines calls innovative touchless technology to give customers a safe, convenient, and easy experience. It also makes life easier for the airline.
