As Breast Cancer Awareness Month approaches in a couple of days, Allegiant Air has shared details of its initiatives to support the cause. During the month of October, the Nevada-based airline will donate a portion of proceeds from the sale of pink refreshments onboard its flights.
Another year of support
According to a press release seen by Simple Flying, this is the seventh year in a row that the low-cost carrier is holding its inflight fundraiser. Altogether, it has donated over $100,000 to support the mission of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Ultimately, the goal is to assist and give hope to those impacted by breast cancer through early detection, education, and support.
Allegiance SVP of flight crew operations Tracy Tulle spoke of the airline’s initiatives. She highlighted how several of the carrier’s flight attendants are familiar with the struggles surrounding breast cancer.
“October is a special time for our flight crew members. Many of them have either battled breast cancer themselves or had a loved one who was affected,” Tulle said, as per the press release.
“They’re excited to help raise money for a cause that is so personally important to them. And our customers appreciate the chance to support the cause simply by buying a pink drink or making a donation onboard. We’re proud to have the chance to help fight this disease along with our partners at the National Breast Cancer Foundation.”
What to expect on board
Minute Maid Pink Lemonade ($5) is one of the pink drinks available in the air. Additionally, Yes Way Rosé ($10) is also available on all of Allegiant’s services. Moreover, flight attendants will be adopting pink attire to help raise awareness. They have the option of adopting pink scarves, ties, belts, lanyards, and other pink garments.
Important causes
Notably, the National Breast Cancer Foundation supports communities where Allegiant serves. It funds outreach and treatment programs in hospitals based in cities such as Las Vegas, Tampa, and Los Angeles. For instance, grants go towards screening and treating uninsured or underinsured women.
The institution’s senior vice president of strategic partnerships and charitable giving, Ken Rameriz, shared that his team is humbled by the generosity and commitment of the airline. He noted that breast cancer does not pause for pandemics, and neither does the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Altogether, during this challenging period, it is warming to see airlines such as Allegiant continue to commit to causes such as this.
