Air Canada shared yesterday that it has resumed passenger flights to Ireland. The flag carrier of Canada is initially flying its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner three times a week between Dublin and Toronto.

Getting the ball rolling

These flights will depart Dublin on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Meanwhile, the return service will leave Toronto on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Air Canada’s Signature Class, premium economy, and economy seating are all available for purchase on these flights. However, it won’t only be passengers being transported across the Atlantic on the Dreamliner. The airline is also moving commercial goods, along with crucial medical products on this service.

According to a press release seen by Simple Flying, Air Canada said the following about its cargo operations:

“The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will also carry a range of commodities, including general cargo and temperature-controlled goods, machinery and industrial parts, aircraft spares, e-commerce products, as well as pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, manufactured by both Irish and Ireland-based multinational companies.”

Still a sensitive time

Even though the service from Ireland is returning, there are still strict travel restrictions in place in Canada. According to the government’s website, the following passengers can currently enter the country amid the current climate:

  • Canadian citizens
  • Permanent residents of Canada
  • Persons registered under Canada’s Indian Act
  • Protected persons

However, there are some exceptions for foreign travelers. For instance, some international students, immediate family members, temporary foreign workers, and transit passengers can enter.

Regardless, these fliers must follow the nation’s mandatory 14-day quarantine policy. These measures will remain in place until at least July 21st, 2020, for travelers coming directly from the United States and until July 31st, 2020, for all other foreign nationals. Currently, most people who are arriving in Ireland from another country also need to self-isolate for 14 days.

Addressing concerns

Nonetheless, Air Canada has put a series of new safety measures in place to minimize risk across its services. Above all, it offers flexible rebooking options to passengers with economy class tickets if their flights are close to full capacity. Additionally, the company is introducing new touchless processes at airports, along with enhancing its inflight service and amenities.

Undoubtedly, there will be several passengers that are delighted with the resumption of this service. Additionally, Air Canada will be glad to get this operation going again as it looks to increase its international schedule throughout the summer.
