AerSale Buys 24 Boeing 757s For Freight Conversions And Parts

AerSale confirmed today that it entered a purchase agreement to take on 24 Boeing 757-200 passenger aircraft. All of the jets come with Rolls-Royce RB211-535 series engines. Additionally, 16 spares form part of the deal.

Plenty to offer

According to a press release seen by Simple Flying, these 757s are part of the approximately 500 commercial planes parked at AerSale’s sites at Roswell, New Mexico and Goodyear, Arizona, for several carriers and companies. AerSale not only provides storage, but it is also a global supplier aftermarket commercial jet aircraft, engines, OEM, and used serviceable material (USM). It also specializes in maintenance, repair & overhaul (MRO).

The firm was intently looking at the 757 as feedstock for the rapidly-growing shipping industry. It says that before the pandemic, more shipment was carried in the cargo holds of passenger aircraft than in dedicated freighters. Subsequently, the downturn in passenger activity, combined with the e-commerce boom, has led to a shortage of cargo-only aircraft. Ultimately, AerSale will be converting these units into freighters at its Goodyear site.

Further use

Additionally, the company will be dissembling part of the 757 fleet, along with the spare engines, for used serviceable material. The Florida-based company says that the amount of USM that it will get from parting-out a number of these planes and engines will feed an almost insatiable USM demand from its airline customers that serve in the express package market.

Valuable deals

AerSale chairman and CEO Nicolas Finazzo spoke of his excitement about this move. He said that his company excels at helping carriers transform their fleets. Moreover, there is plenty of potential across the industry with this purchase.

“I am proud of our industry-veteran management team because one of our strengths is assisting airlines with major fleet transitions, identifying optimal use and value for the associated flight equipment, using our integrated infrastructure to extract that value, and then passing that value on to our customers,” Finazzo said, as per the press release.

“We have purchased over $1.2 Billion Dollars of aircraft and engines during our decade in business, and have been a leading provider of whole aircraft, engines and USM. This package of high quality flight equipment last operated by a top-tier airline customer is yet another example of an opportunity for the AerSale platform to extract meaningful value from mid-life flight equipment.”

Altogether, the results from this Boeing 757 acquisition will be well-balanced. The whole aircraft will be in use with most of the 757s. Meanwhile, the parts of the remaining units will assist with the needs of several operators.
