Aerolíneas Argentinas recently announced its summer schedule, operating flights to 19 international destinations from Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Moreover, the State airline is restarting its flights to cities like Rome, New York, Bogota, Punta Cana, and more. After eight months of inactivity, Aerolíneas is planning to fly abroad again. Let’s investigate further.
Where is Aerolíneas flying?
In December 2020, Aerolíneas is having international flights to 13 destinations. Then, between January and March, it will ramp up to 19 cities covered. Before the year ends, the Argentinian carrier will be operating 44 international flights per week. These are the cities covered:

Aerolíneas launches a COVID-19 insurance
Additionally to operating these routes, Aerolíneas Argentinas launched a COVID-19 insurance.
This Assist Card insurance will protect its customers if they have a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 while traveling abroad. Pablo Ceriani, Aerolíneas CEO, said,
“With these flights, we have the opportunity of relaunching some of the objectives we had at the beginning of my tenure, related to strengthening our international network. It is important for the company, and the country, to step forward to reestablish our normality.”
A quick look into Argentina’s awful year
Due to the Argentinian restrictions, Aerolíneas Argentinas just recently started flying commercially again. For example, it only operated 65 humanitarian international flights to seven cities on two continents in October. Domestically it is also just beginning to fly again. Argentina is the latest country in South America to allow the resumption of air traffic. Between April and October, there has been a 99% decrease in passengers’ number compared to last year.
This has led to LATAM leaving the country and a tug of war between low-cost carrier Flybondi and the Government over the operation from one of the three Buenos Aires airports. In the meantime, the Argentinian Government also announced the merger of Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral.
It is a good sign that Aerolíneas is announcing its international flights again. Hopefully, the other carriers in the country will ramp up as well. Unfortunately, it seems like Argentina’s State carriers will increase its market share, pushing into a monopoly.
