ACCIONA Energa has completed the commissioning tests of three charging stations with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology at IKEA stores in the Spanish towns of A Corua, Badalona and Alcorcn.
The V2G technology enables two-way communication between the vehicle and the electrical system, turning the former into an energy supplier. As a result, the electric car battery not only stores energy for its own use, but it also allows to supply other systems or inject the electricity back into the grid.
This initiative is part of the agreement between both companies for the installation of hundreds of charging stations for electric vehicles in different IKEA stores in Spain, and it marks a milestone in the Swedish companys commitment to sustainable mobility. These are the first V2G stations implemented in IKEAs stores worldwide and are intended exclusively for the use of its electric vehicles fleet, as part of its strategy to decarbonize its logistics and supply chain.
In addition to the installation of the charging points, ACCIONA Energa will be responsible for their operation, maintenance, customer service and electricity supply with certificates of 100% renewable energy origin.
The V2G charging points installed at the IKEA stores allow vehicles to be charged at times of lower demand and cost or to return energy to the grid during consumption peaks, which contributes to the stability of the electricity system and can result in savings for users.
This initiative comes on top of others that IKEA has already implemented to decarbonize mobility, such as the electrification of its fleet and the installation of charging points for customers and employees in its stores.
ACCIONA Energa is a leader in electric urban mobility in Spain. Since its entry into this market in 2021, the company has developed, operated and maintained public charging stations both on interurban routes and in urban centers, contributing to the expansion of the countrys charging infrastructure.
This project has received funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan
