US big three carrier United Airlines has made it easier than ever to make that next trip more comfortable. Since July 28th, United Airlines has added four new fare classes to its list of eligible tiers that can be redeemed on Turkish Airlines.
From United’s point of view, it gives its passengers a wider range of redemption options and the possibility to fly to new destinations on an upgrade. For passengers, it’s a very good reason to pick Turkish as a carrier and to experience that fabulous new business class product onboard its 787 Dreamliner first hand.
With a multitude of flights daily between key points in the US and Istanbul, snagging an upgrade for that transatlantic trip just got much easier. And if your trip requires a connection of between six and 24 hours, you can make use of the unique Touristanbul service to take in the sights and sounds of this vibrant city.
Snagging that upgrade
Thanks to the extension of booking classes, now upgrades can be booked from M, A, H and S discounted economy classes, as well as the previously available Y and B fare classes. This makes it easier than ever to get an upgrade on Turkish Airlines and to travel in style at a much more affordable price.
The original economy ticket could end up several hundred dollars cheaper in, for example, S class than in the previous option of B class. Add on around 25,000 United miles in each direction, and you’ve got yourself a bargain business class seat to Turkey.
Not only will your seat be better, but you can expect a much-improved meal service too. Turkish Airlines was quick to move to adjust its inflight meal service in order to ensure safety against COVID and, in line with IATA guidance, now offers deliciously flavored boxed meals to limit interactions between cabin crew and passengers. As such, those with the business class upgrade will be able to enjoy the best food onboard.
Of course, the benefits don’t stop at a more comfortable seat and better service in the air
either. Turkish Airlines has reopened its business class lounge at Istanbul Airport, which is
ready for any upgraded passenger to enjoy. The airline told Simple Flying,
“Turkish Airlines Lounge Miles&Smiles at Istanbul Airport International Terminal, Turkish
Airlines Lounge Domestic at Istanbul Airport Domestic Terminal and Turkish Airlines Lounge
Domestic at Ankara Esenboga Airport Domestic Terminal are providing services for our
passengers, following the implementation of additional hygiene measures.”
Where can I fly?
If you’re tempted to burn some of your United miles on an upgrade with Turkish, you may be wondering where is open to book right now. You’ll be pleased to hear that Turkish is one of the airlines that was quickest to ramp up its international services following initial lockdown, and has been developing one of the most robust schedules to the USA of any international airline. As of August, you can fly from:
- Boston Logan three times per week
- Washington Dulles five times per week
- Houston George Bush three times per week
- New York JFK seven times per week
- Los Angeles International five times per week
- Miami International four times per week
- Chicago O’Hare seven times per week

For people in the US with an acute case of wanderlust, this is a great way to travel a long way from home in style and affordably if you have United miles to burn. We think it’s a great move by United, and will allow more passengers to experience the unique hospitality of Turkish Airlines first hand.
