NEWS FLASH
Lufthansa is testing a reduced cabin cleaning concept on around twenty short-haul European routes. Under the trial, the changes apply only to economy class, while business class continues to receive the usual cleaning between flights. As part of the test, the airline is limiting the amount of cleaning carried out during aircraft turnarounds at outstations. This includes a more selective approach to removing rubbish from seat pockets and reducing general cabin tidying between sectors. Lavatories are also affected, with toilets no longer cleaned as a matter of routine after every flight during the trial, but instead only when needed. Lufthansa has already adjusted some elements of the trial following feedback, including reversing an initial plan not to cross seat belts between flights. The test is being conducted on a limited basis and is intended to assess whether the airline can reduce cleaning work during the day without broader operational issues.
