Ahmedabad: A magisterial court here on Wednesday granted six-day custodial interrogation of Kartik Patel, owner of Khyati Multispecialty Hospital, to the city crime branch in connection with the scam of issuing Ayushman cards to ineligible persons to get benefits of the govt’s free healthcare scheme, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).
Patel was arrested along with others after two patients at Khyati Hospital died allegedly after being made to undergo unwanted angiographies under PM-JAY. While investigating this case, the crime branch busted the racket of issuing Ayushman cards to ineligible individuals and found the involvement of hospital office-bearers.
The probe revealed that 1,200 to 1,500 cards had been issued for a nominal amount. The city crime branch, after getting Patel’s custody from jail, interrogated him and produced him before the court and sought his custodial interrogation for 14 days. The court granted his custodial interrogation till March 11, sources said. tnn
