DHL Express announced this week that it will add four 767-300 Boeing Converted Freighters (BCF) to its fleet. These jets are converted from passenger to freighter configuration. The acquisition is part of the cargo specialist’s goal to modernize its long-haul intercontinental fleet in order to fly eco-friendlier and more cost-efficiently.
The 767-300BCF part of the widebody twin-engine 767 freighter family. DHL says that the type offers the lowest direct operating costs and best payload to weight ratio. Subsequently, the company is looking to develop new opportunities in the long-haul, regional, and feeder markets.
The -300BCF has practically the same cargo abilities as the 767-300F production freighter with around 50 tons of structural payload. It also has a range of approximately 3,000 nautical miles (5,556 kilometers) and 412,000 pounds (186,880 kilograms) maximum takeoff weight.
Familiar with the type
According to a press release seen by Simple Flying, Geoff Kehr, DHL Express’ SVP of global air fleet management, shared his excitement of introducing additional 767 freighters to his company’s air network. The firm has been operating the jet for over a decade, so it is a natural progression to add more models of the type to its fleet.
“We have operated the 767-300F model across our global fleet for many years and look forward to continue investing in the platform by adding more 767-300BCFs,” he said, as per the press release.
“The freighter type offers a proven versatility and we appreciate the opportunity to further enhance efficiency while simultaneously improving our environmental footprint. This brings us closer to our Strategy 2025 goals and ensures we deliver the best quality service possible to our customers.”
Reliable aircraft
Meanwhile, Boeing’s SVP of commercial sales and marketing, Ihssane Mounir, highlights that his company is committed to delivering the freighter capacity that DHL needs to succeed as one of the most trusted logistics and express cargo leaders.
He added that he is delighted that the business chooses Boeing’s platforms to optimize its operations. Across the industry, the manufacturers has received 51 orders and commitments for the 767-300BCF so far.
According to Planespotters.net, DHL currently holds 34 767 aircraft within its fleet. The firm also previously operated two further units. Other Boeing variants in DHL’s holdings are the 737, 747, 757, and 777. The shipping experts also hold ATR, Airbus, and Tupolev productions.
