Viva Aerobus Announces its 50th Airbus A321
Viva Aerobus held an official welcome ceremony for its 50th aircraft at the Monterrey International Airport, a new Airbus A321neo with registration XA-VBM, which is distinguished by a decoration alluding to this emblematic expansion of the airline’s fleet.
In a press release, the Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier informed that the new aircraft landed in Mexico on Saturday, July 31 at 7:00 p.m. at Terminal C of the Monterrey International Airport, after taking off in the morning of the same day from Hamburg, Germany, stopping at Keflavík, Iceland and Bangor, United States.
“The arrival of our 50th aircraft is a symbol of our commitment to accessible air connectivity in Mexico, and it is also a recognition of the ultra-low-cost business model and our expansion strategy that allows us to provide our passengers with additional value by combining the youngest fleet in Mexico, which offers the highest standards in safety and reliability, with the lowest prices”, mentioned Viva Aerobus’ CEO, Juan Carlos Zuazua.
With this arrival, Viva Aerobus reaffirms itself as the airline with the youngest fleet in the country and the second youngest in all of North America, now made up of 10 Airbus A321s and 40 Airbus A320s, with an average age of only 4.6 years.
It should be remembered that the Airbus A321neo has a capacity for 240 passengers, offers fuel efficiencies for the benefit of the environment and provides greater comfort thanks to its intelligent design in terms of the use of space and noise reduction in the cabin.
“We are extremely proud that Viva Aerobus is receiving its 50th aircraft, and that it has added a new A321neo to its fleet. This milestone confirms that the A320 Family is the world’s most popular single-aisle aircraft family, for its excellent performance of more than 20 percent fuel and CO2 savings. We will continue working together with Viva Aerobus to continue meeting important milestones together”, said Airbus’ President for Latin America and the Caribbean, Arturo Barreira.
This fleet expansion provides the Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier with the necessary support to meet the growing demand that it has recently registered, even within a challenging scenario for the sector at a global level, while maintaining its expansion strategy.
Viva Aerobus leads the recovery of the sector after having exceeded pre-pandemic passenger levels, even reaching a record in the number of passengers in a single month, with more than 1.36 million passengers during June, an increase of 31% vs. June 2019.
This new Airbus A321 represents the company’s renewed commitment to the traveler experience, evident in three new initiatives launched in 2021 that take Viva Aerobus service to the next level, in line with its vision of being the lowest cost, preferred fun and profitable carrier in America.
Finally, this new aircraft also strengthens Viva Aerobus’ environmental culture ‘The Future is Green’ as it reduces the sound footprint and emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides.
The Airbus A321 has highly efficient engines in terms of fuel use, that allow Viva to continue to strengthen itself as the airline with the lowest number of CO2 emissions per passenger in Mexico and is on track to achieve its goals of reducing its CO2 emissions per seat per kilometer and CO2 per passenger per kilometer by more than 15% to 2025.
