SpiceJet Honors Indian Actor With Special Boeing 737 Livery

Must read

SpiceJet has offered one of its high honors to actor Sonu Sood: putting him on the livery of one of its Boeing 737s. Sonu Sood is a popular Indian actor but has also risen to fame in the last year through his exceptional work of helping stranded migrants across the country. Let’s find out more.

Special livery

Airlines around the world occasionally use their aircraft liveries for many reasons, from highlighting important causes, celebrating leaders or history, advertising, and much more. This time, SpiceJet has used one of its 737’s to celebrate actor Sonu Sood for his work during the pandemic.

While many might recognize Sood from his over a decade-long acting career, including roles in many of the biggest films, this celebration is for another reason. Last May, while India was still in a lockdown, Sood worked to help thousands of migrants workers travel from cities to their hometowns using chartered buses, trains, and flights.

Once flights resumed in late May, Sood planned several rescue flights for Indians stuck abroad in countries like Kyrgyzstan and Russia. Aside from transport, Sood has also offered to help migrants find jobs and pay medical bills. His charity and contributions were also marked by the United Nations Development Program, which awarded him the SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award.

Working with SpiceJet

On several rescue flights, Sonu Sood partnered with SpiceJet to help those stranded and flew a total of 250,000 passengers. In a statement seen by India.com, SpiceJet MD Ajay Singh said,

“We are extremely proud of our association with Sonu Sood and the work that we have done together during this pandemic. This special livery is a tribute from SpiceJet for Sonu’s selfless efforts and to thank him for the outstanding and exemplary work that he has done to help millions during this pandemic.”

Adding the special livery took several days in the workshop, with the image of Sonu Sood and text placed over the SpiceJet logo on one side. The aircraft carrying this livery is VT-SGQ, a 10-year-old Boeing 737-800 delivered to SpiceJet in 2011.

A year of special liveries

The last year has seen many airlines use their aircraft to remind those watching of important messages or thanking employees. Garuda Indonesia and Cargolux both added masks to the nose of their planes. Meanwhile, Eurowings is using one of its A320s to thank its employees and writing their names.

Most airlines opt to paint their aircraft white with minimal messaging to save costs. However, the empty space means that airlines can add special messages later too, as SpiceJet has. Expect many more unique liveries in the coming years as airlines receive new planes and recover from this difficult time.
