United Airlines today shared that it is planning to restart operations on just under 30 international routes in November. As part of these resumptions, the Chicago-based carrier is ramping-up service on over 40 Caribbean and Mexican beach routes. Moreover, returns to several destinations in Asia, Europe, Central America, South America are on the cards.
Across the Americas
When it comes to Latin America and the Caribbean, United is adding 25 new routes for next month. Some highlights for November in these regions include the following:
- The resumption of flights Houston and Rio de Janeiro, which will operate three times weekly.
- The restarting of services between Houston and Santiago, which will operate three times weekly.
- Flights to seven Caribbean and Central American destinations, including Antigua, Curacao, Grand Cayman, Managua, Nassau, St. Lucia, and Roatan, will resume.
- There will be service expansion to over 20 routes to popular beach destinations throughout Mexico. Operations include new sew service to Acapulco and Zihuatanejo, along with expanded service to Cancun, Cozumel, Cabo San Lucas, and Puerto Vallarta.
Other resumptions
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, United is resuming operations between Denver and Frankfurt. Service will be three times a week. Additionally, flights to the German city from Houston will restart with trips five times a week.
Across the Pacific, the carrier is restarting nonstop operations three times weekly between San Francisco and Taipei. Furthermore, there will be an increase in service between San Francisco and Seoul to five times a week.
There is also domestic progress with a new service between Washington Dulles and Key West. United is additionally restarting operations between San Francisco and Tampa. Along with this, it is resuming flights between Denver and Miami. The route between Los Angeles and Maui will also increase to daily.
A word from the airline
Patrick Quayle, United’s vice president of International Network and Alliances, spoke of these plans to increase service. He highlighted that along with providing flights for people wanting to catch some sun, these operations will also help people see loved ones.
“For the month of November, we have adjusted our capacity to add flying for leisure travel to warm weather and beach destinations in Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean, along with ‘visiting friends and relatives’ travel across the globe,” Quayle said, as per the press release.
“We’re also pleased to announce that beginning this weekend, customers can purchase tickets for United’s new nonstop flights between Chicago and New Delhi, New York/Newark and Johannesburg, and between San Francisco and Bangalore.”
Nonetheless, even with this progress, United’s schedule for next month is still less than half of what it was this time last year. Altogether, the operator intends to fly 44% of its schedule in November compared to 2019. This would be a 4-point increase compared to this month.
It is positive to see United returning to several destinations while increasing capacity. However, the airline understands that there is still a long way to go in the recovery process.
